Abstract

Managing of complexities and challenges associated with vital and limited resources like battery power, wireless channel bandwidth, frequent disconnections and various other problems of the wired system such as variations in data size, time critical data updates and data access latency are the parameters that have given rise to the requirement for efficient cache management strategies. A heuristic approach based on different parameters that improve caching performance called Heuristic-based Cache Replacement Policy for selecting the page to be evicted is proposed in this paper. The proposed policy improves the data availability and reduce the local cache miss ratio on the client side in location-dependent environment and then perform multicast data dissemination to maintain cache consistency on the wireless network since it is based on factors that affect performance of cache such as the distance between the requester and data source, frequency of data access, data size and finally coherence.
