Zusammenfassung
Die Speicheldrüsen im Gesichtsbereich sowie in der Mundhöhle haben mit ihren sekretorischen Leistungen bei der Nahrungsaufnahme, bei der Einleitung des Verdauungsprozesses, beim Schutz des Zahnsystems und als Abwehrmechanismus gegen Erreger eine überragende Bedeutung. Die Darstellung physiologischer, aber auch pathophysiologischer Vorgänge im Bereich der Speicheldrüsen ist in der einschlägigen Literatur nachzulesen (Seifert et al. 1984, Seifert 1996). Ihre Erkrankungen mit möglichen operativen Interventionen müssen aber besprochen werden, um die Indikation zum differenzierten chirurgischen Vorgehen im einzelnen und die spezifischen operativen Probleme der erkrankten Organe darzulegen.
