Abstract
We introduced the Web Ontology Language (OWL 1 and OWL 2) in the previous chapter as a technical knowledge representation language. The logical formalism behind OWL is provided by Description Logics (DL). This chapter is an introduction to DL as a formalism for representing knowledge and for reasoning about it.
