In the frame of works connected with modernization of outlet installations of the Zlotniki storage reservoir on the Kwisa River, the model investigations of side channel spillway were carried out. Investigations were preceded by an analysis of principles of the functioning of this type of installation and analytical calculations defining its capacity ability. Studies were carried out on a large-scale physical model with the full projection of the conditions of water inflow on side channel spillway and water outflow by a multistage cascade. Results of model tests were compared with analytical calculations and the necessity of reconstruction of this installation was shown, assuring the safety of reservoir with regard to computational discharges in the current state of a technical solution of outlet installation, significantly exceeding its nominal capacity ability.
