Abstract
The study area is located in the Marginal Pyrenean Sierras, which include the Hydrogeological Unit Estopiñán Syncline, consisting of two permeable levels: Upper Cretaceous and Eocene, and Hydrogeological Unit Estaña where endorheic and karstic Estaña Lakes are located. This work introduces the first results obtained from the hydrogeochemical and isotopic (δO18, δH2 and H3) precipitacion and groundwater description, made to determine the general hydrological and hydrogeological of Estaña Lakes. This description allowed to differentiate the groundwater main chemical groups and to deduce qualitatively the dominating chemical processes. A large regional chemical variability is observed, mainly attributed to the different permeable levels as well as to mixing processes. The Estaña’s Big Lake presents a marked calcium sulphate composition, constant either in depth and time. Multiparametric profiles have been done (EC, T, pH, DO, δ18O) confirming its monomictic character, sufering a process of stratification in the water between March and October and with a termocline about 6 m of depth.
