Die Gesundheit des Bronchialbaumes, der sich von der Nasenoff nung bis zu den terminalen Alveolen erstreckt, ist fur das Wohlbefinden seines Wirts von kritischer Bedeutung. Atemwegsdysfunktionen im Rahmen einer durch Baumpollen verursachten unangenehmen Nasenverstopfung, einem Asthma auslosenden potenziell lebensbedrohlichen Bronchospasmus oder einer durch eine virale Lungenentzundung verursachten Alveolitis stellen ein wichtiges Gesundheitsproblem dar.
