Zusammenfassung

In Deutschland versterben etwa 30.000 Menschen jährlich durch einen Unfall. Nur 20% dieser Unfälle ereignen sich im Straßenverkehr. Der sinkenden Inzidenz an Todesfällen durch Verkehrsunfälle steht eine steigende Tendenz an häuslichen Unfällen gegenüber, wahrscheinlich bedingt durch die zunehmende ältere Bevölkerung. Während diese Zahlen sich auf alle Verletzungen beziehen, lässt sich die Anzahl der Schädel-Hirn-Verletzten weniger exakt bestimmen: Man schätzt über 300.000 stationäre Behandlungen pro Jahr durch Schädel-Hirn-Verletzungen, wobei hier auch die äußeren Schädelverletzungen mit eingeschlossen sind.
