Abstract

Relationships between the PC index and isolated and sawtooth substorms associated with a fluctuating interplanetary electric field were outlined in Chapter 7. Relationships between the PC index and magnetic storm formation and dynamics were outlined in Chapter 8. In this chapter, we examine specific features of magnetic disturbances that occur when a steadily powerful interplanetary electric field impacts on the magnetosphere.
