Zusammenfassung

Ziele der Diabetestherapie sind Symptomfreiheit, Verbesserung der Lebensqualität und Vermeidung von Sekundärkomplikationen. Dieses wird nach den Daten mehrerer Studien in erster Linie durch eine möglichst optimale Blutzuckereinstellung erreicht. Für den Typ-1-Diabetes ist die Wirkung der Blutzuckereinstellung durch die DCCT-Studie gesichert (Diabetes Control and Complications Trial Research Group 1993). Eine Nachuntersuchung der Patienten betätigte, dass sogar 17 Jahre nach Beendigung der DCCT-Studie das Risiko für kardiovaskuläre Ereignisse durch die intensivierte Therapie um 42% gesenkt wurde (The Diabetes Control and Complications Trial/Epidemiology of Diabetes Interventions and Complications (DCCT/EDIC) Study Research Group 2005).
