Abstract

We now deal exclusively (unless specific mention of the contrary) with systems arising from primitive and aperiodic substitutions of constant length–more generally automata–and our purpose, till the end of chapter 11, is to give a constructive description of the spectral multiplicity and maximal spectral type of such systems. We shall prefer to refer to as the spectrum of the substitution.
