Vor dem Zeitalter der flächendeckenden medizinischen Versorgung und dem frühen Einsatz von Antibiotika waren Lungenabszesse in der Regel die Folge unbehandelter Pneumonien (◉ Tab.  28.1). Heute sind sie sehr selten.
