Abstract
Otosclerosis is unique to the human otic capsule. It is an autosommal dominant genetic disorder with incomplete clinical penetrance. Progressive conductive hearing loss from stapes fixation arises from the dual pathologic processes of otospongiosis and otosclerosis. Primary cochlear otosclerosis is relatively rare. Stapes surgery or fitting of a hearing aid can rehabilitate the hearing loss.
