Abstract
Temporal bone fractures are best classified as “otic capsule-sparing” or “otic capsule-violating”. Otic capsule-violating fractures are more likely to be associated with facial paralysis, CSF leakage, a profound sensorineural hearing loss, vertigo and an intracranial hemorrhage. A high resolution CT scan is the investigation of choice for fracture localization. Following skull fracture patients continue to be at greater risk for meningitis.
