Abstract

Transcatheter aortic valve implantation techniques have been recently suggested as an endovascular alternative to conventional aortic valve implantation. However, the calcified valve-pathology remains in-situ and has to be squeezed into the aortic wall by balloon valvuloplasty prior to the implantation procedure. Therefore, the endovascular resection of the degenerated native heart valve would be advantageous prior to a catheter-based implantation. For this purpose an innovative prototype of a novel heart valve resection tool was improved by implementation of a linear motor drive system.
