Abstract
The software architecture presented in this paper is part of the research project Med-on-@ix for the safe application of information technology in preclinical emergency health care. It aims at supporting emergency medical services (EMS) staff at the incident location from a remote Competence Centre (CC).
To achieve a virtual presence of a physician on site it is necessary to provide as much information from site as possible. The presented system architecture incorporates the transmission of many vital parameters, video and auscultation as well as a reliable voice communication by the use of commercial and professional mobile radio (PMR) technology.
A scenario for the telematic support, the crucial requirements and the hardware configuration will be summarised. A possible layered system architecture of a telematic support system for EMS will be outlined. Special attention is payed to the reusability of existing medical devices and software applications in the design of the middleware.
