Abstract

The fundamental vector to all theories of motion is the position vector. In each such theory this vector is defined by means of a definite procedure, which reflects the way the theory incorporates the concepts of space and time. The position vector is a profound concept in Newtonian Physics due to the sensory relation of this theory with the concepts of space and time. However, the case is different with Special Relativity. The measurement of the position four-vector with light signals (chronometry) leads to a relation between the two concepts and necessitates their reconsideration.
