Psychoedukation und Angehörigenarbeit

Zusammenfassung

Der Begriff Psychoedukation stammt aus dem angelsächsischen Sprachraum. Mit »psychoeducational family treatment« (Anderson et al. 1980) wurde in der amerikanischen und englischen Psychiatrie Anfang der 1980er Jahre eine Behandlungsform beschrieben, die den Familien schizophrener Patienten auf zweierlei Weise Hilfe bringt. Einerseits werden die Angehörigen der Kranken ausführlich über die schizophrene Erkrankung, deren Entstehungsbedingungen, den Verlauf und die Behandlungsmöglichkeiten informiert. Andererseits wird überwiegend mit verhaltenstherapeutischen Methoden die Kompetenz der Patienten und der Angehörigen im Umgang mit der Erkrankung verbessert (Falloon et al. 1982). Dieses Vorgehen ist mittlerweile fester Bestandteil in Psychotherapieprogrammen für Patienten und in der therapeutischen Angehörigenarbeit und steht für verschiedene psychiatrische, psychosomatische und somatische Erkrankungen meist in manualisierter Form zur Verfügung. Während es bei einigen Diagnosen eine robuste Evidenzbasierung für psychoedukative Interventionen gibt, ist die Datenbasis bei anderen Diagnosen noch dünn.
