Zusammenfassung

Ein Trauma stellt viele Grundannahmen über Gottes Schutz und die eigene Unverwundbarkeit infrage und erschüttert die Grundstrukturen einer Persönlichkeit erheblich. In ihrer oberflächlichen Form kann Spiritualität ein Ausdruck der Verdrängung der Risiken sein, die die menschliche Existenz inhärent in sich trägt. Neben der allgemeinen Traumaverarbeitung kann die Wiedergewinnung eines spirituellen Urvertrauens ein Thema sein. Verschiedene Ansätze durch Musik und Meditation sowie hilfreiche Gruppenerfahrungen werden beschrieben. Ein dunkles Kapitel ist die Traumatisierung im Rahmen religiöser Machtausübung („geistlicher Missbrauch“). Dieser kann im religiösen Alltag von narzisstischen Leitungsfiguren ausgehen, in destruktiven Kulten aber auch systematischen Charakter annehmen. Der relativ junge Begriff des posttraumatischen Wachstums beschreibt eine positive Auswirkung traumatischer Erfahrungen auf die Persönlichkeit im Sinne einer Reifung und einer vertieften spirituellen Verankerung.
