This final chapter summarizes the main contributions of the book in Section 6.1. Section 6.2 is about related work. Many grid programming tools (libraries, schedulers, etc.) which are complementary to the HOC approach were already discussed in the previous chapters. This chapter presents a survey of the most popular component models for programming grid andWeb applications, showing where HOCs and the HOC-SA range within the variety of contemporary approaches to grid programming. Moreover, this chapter suggests useful combinations of HOCs with Problem Solving Environments (PSEs) and exemplifies this class of software by presenting the most notable representatives of PSEs for grid programming. In the remainder of this chapter, the relation between the grid and other contemporary Internettechnologies such as the Semantic Web and the Web 2.0 is discussed and possible applications of HOCs which use such technologies are suggested.
