Abstract
Facial nerve paralysis may be due to different pathologies. It is important to diagnose the disease early and start the treatment as soon as possible. Topographic tests help localize the site of the lesion. Prognostic tests predict the prognosis. Staging of the injury and the degree of the lesion is important. Section of the nerve or facial nerve paralysis due to chronic otitis media with cholesteatoma needs early surgical treatment. In long-standing paralysis decompression of the nerve may be considered. For the permanent facial nerve paralysis, tarsorrhaphy may be used.
