Lepton Number Violating μ and τ Decay
Before concluding, we touch upon exciting developments in rare τ decays: radiative decays which have \(b\to s\) echoes and the enigmatic (if found) baryon number violating decays. There should be no doubt that we would have uncovered Beyond the Standard Model physics if any of these are observed. Again, it is the B factories that have pushed the frontier recently. Compared to the 1.1 nb cross section for \(e^+e^- \to B\bar B\) and 1.3 nb for \(e^+e^- \to c\bar c\), the \(e^+e^- \to \tau^+\tau^-\) cross section of 0.9 nb is not far behind. Thus, B factories are also tau and charm factories!
