Crescent Mastopexy

Aesthetic breast surgery has become an increasingly important part of the practice of cosmetic surgery since the middle of the twentieth century. A truly beautiful breast without obvious surgical scars is paramount in the minds of all surgeons performing cosmetic breast surgery. However, in the past, “traditional” mastopexy has of en left unacceptable scars on the breast. Therefore, cosmetic surgeons must endeavor to correct breast pto-sis without creating extensive and undesirable scarring on the breast. In accordance with these lof y goals, the areolar crescent and extended crescent mastopexy procedures have been formulated.

These versatile crescent breast lif s may be performed with or without concurrent breast augmentation and will provide consistent and reliable aesthetic results in nearly all age categories. To accomplish these goals, the crescent is used to optimize the position and appearance of the nipple—areola complex (NAC) by improving its symmetry, reducing NAC ptosis, and correcting nipple malposition by utilizing a shallow, intradermal, semicircular, or extended periareolar skin excision and closure. Crescent nipple lif with breast mastopexy is applicable for many different breast sizes and shapes. It eliminates the full circumareolar, vertical, and horizontal components used in other types of mastopexy procedures. The crescent lif can be used to reshape a breast or reposition the NAC to a more suitable position on the mammary mound, especially following breast augmentation. after augmentation, the breast will not only be larger, but will exhibit substantially different dimensions and proportions relative to the NAC. Thus, nipple lif ing can create a completely different breast appearance [2]. The improved breast geometry and new shape will help create a more satisfactory aesthetic result for the patient who possesses newly augmented breasts.
