Zusammenfassung
Die sog. Sexualsteroide der Frau lassen sich den Hormongruppen der Östrogene, der Gestagene und der Androgene zuordnen. Sie werden im weiblichen Organismus gebildet und sind an der Regulation zahlreicher physiologischer Prozesse beteiligt. Bei der Frau unterliegen essenzielle biologische Prozesse wie die Embryonalentwicklung, die neuroendokrine Steuerung des weiblichen Zyklus, die Vorbereitung des Fortpflanzungstrakts für Fertilisation und Implantation sowie wichtige Vorgänge im Kohlenhydrat-, Eiweiß- und Fettstoffwechsel der Kontrolle durch Sexualsteroide. Auch das geschlechtsspezifische Verhalten wird durch die genannten Steroidhormone wesentlich mitgeprägt.
