Auszug
Das von Thomas Hodgkin 1832 erstmals beschriebene und nach ihm benannte Hodgkin-Lymphom (Hodgkin 1832) ist charakterisiert durch einkernige Tumorzellen (Hodgkin-Zellen) und/oder mehrkernige Tumorzellen (Reed-Sternberg-Zellen) sowie ein entzündliches Begleitinfiltrat. Selten sind Kinder unter 3 Jahren betroffen, danach zeigt sich jedoch eine zunehmende Inzidenz mit zwei Häufigkeitsgipfeln im Erwachsenenalter. Ursprünglich wurde die Krankheit durch alleinige Radiatio therapiert, in den 60er-Jahren konnte dann das Bestrahlungsfeld zunehmend reduziert und Chemotherapeutika eingesetzt werden. Seit den 80er-Jahren betragen die Heilungsraten hierbei über 90%, so dass mittlerweile das Augenmerk zunehmend auf die Vermeidung von Spätfolgen der Therapie gerichtet ist.
