Abstract

We present an empirical investigation of a mathematical model of cytokine and cell interactions, as derived by Hone and van den Berg, with the intention of ascertaining its potential for deployment in an engineering context. The model’s behavioural robustness regarding various patterns of input is assessed, as is it’s scope for manipulation through parameter adjustments. Based on these observations we make an addition to the system and attempt to deliberately engineer particular behavioural properties. Finally, the system’s suitability for use in engineering is assessed.
