Vorhofextrasystolen (VoES) kommen nicht viel weniger häufig vor als ventrikuläre Extrasystolen (VES), sie sind aber viel häufiger als supraventrikuläre Extrasystolen (SVES), die im atrioventrikulären (AV) Knoten entstehen. Oft gehen VoES nicht mit einer Herzkrankheit einher. In bis zu 64% junger, gesunder Menschen werden in einem ambulanten EKG einige VoES gefunden, meistens ohne Symptome.
