Synkope ist ein plötzlich oder rasch einsetzender, spontan reversibler Bewusstseins- und Tonusverlust infolge einer zerebralen Minderperfusion. Andere Ursachen eines kurzfristigen, spontan reversiblen Bewusstseinsverlustes, wie z. B. Epilepsie oder Hypoglykämie, sind keine Synkope.
