Kardiale Symptome zählen zu den häufigsten Beschwerden in der Bevölkerung. Thorakale Schmeizen, Palpitationen, Engegefühl, Dyspnoe oder andere herzbezogene Beschwerden wie ein retrosternales Druckgefühl treten mit einer Prävalenz zwischen 10 und 25% auf. Sehr häufig ist in diesen Fällen eine somatische Ursache nicht eruierbar, obwohl eine weiterführende und apparative Diagnostik eingeleitet wurde.
