Organizational elements of the psychiatric service in the penal system of the Russian Federation

Abstract

A substantial rate of psychiatric pathology among convicted persons in correctional institutions, frequency of custodial control violation and socially dangerous acts performed by them for morbid reasons give place for early detection of their mental disorders in order to deliver timely health care and to prevent from occurrence of psychiatric diseases and their negative socio-psychological consequences. Optimal organization of the psychiatric service in correctional institutions is a necessary condition for delivering efficient psychiatric care to convicted persons.
