Strategien zum Schutz der menschlichen Haut vor einem vorzeitigen Alterungsprozess basieren heute im Wesentlichen auf dem Prinzip der Photoprotektion. Insofern kommt der Verwendung von UV-Filtern, die längst nicht mehr nur in ausgewiesenen Sonnenschutzmitteln, sondern mehr und mehr auch in zahlreichen, für den täglichen Bedarf konzipierten kosmetischen Produkten vorhanden sind, eine herausragende Bedeutung als primäre Schutzstrategie zu. An der Wirksamkeit und dem Nutzen von UV-Filtern besteht zumindest aus dermatologischer Sicht kein grundlegender Zweifel. Besonders begrüßenswert ist, dass gerade in den letzten Jahren im Bereich der UV-Filter-Entwicklung enorme technologische Fortschritte gemacht wurden, die es heute in einem zuvor nicht gekannten Ausmaß erlauben, die Haut gegen unerwünschte Wirkungen der UV-B- und UV-A-Strahlung zu schützen. Auf der anderen Seite muss heute jedoch fest davon ausgegangen werden, dass der durch UV-Filter hervorgerufene Schutz nicht 100%ig ist.
