Definition, Aufbau und Funktion des Komplementsystems. Komplement ist ein Teil der unspezifischen humoralen Abwehr. Einschließlich seiner Regulatorproteine besteht es aus ca. 25 verschiedenen Plasmaeiweißen. Viele Komplemenfaktoren liegen normalerweise als inaktive Vorstufe vor. Erst durch einen Aktivierungsvorgang, oft eine partielle Proteolyse, werden sie in biologisch wirksame Eiweiße mit enzymatischer Aktivität überführt. Komplement steht bereits bei Geburt zur Abwehr zur Verfügung, wenn auch mit etwas reduzierter Aktivität verglichen mit Erwachsenen.
