Abstract

A gaze-contingent display manipulates some property of the (static or moving) image as a function of gaze direction (see [148] for a review). Among the image properties that can be manipulated are contrast, colour, and spatial frequency content. Alternatively, parts of the display may be masked depending on gaze position. Gaze-contingent displays were first used in reading research [406,510,512] and have since been used in many psychophysical and perceptual studies (e.g. [108, 381, 382]).
