The consideration of various types of medical images cannot focus only on the technical aspects of their acquisition, processing, analysis and recognition (which will be the subject of further considerations), but should analyze the ways in which they are used. Medical images are obviously acquired mainly for diagnostic reasons, so we write a lot about the ways of making a good use of computer image analysis as a tool supporting the diagnostic process in this book. Images are some-times also used to aid therapy, one example being Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT).
