Abstract

In the previous parts, we considered the general framework of ICT, problems and issues associated with it and some of the technologies that are currently available. We now turn our attention to communication processes and the potential benefits and disadvantages of using ICT in the field of culture. Our discussion will encompass digitisation, archiving and management tools, exploitation and added value services. We will start with a general overview of this subject, taking into account content, standards, sustainability, economic models, data acquisition, digital preservation, comparisons between classification schemes, interoperability, large datasets, navigation tools and metaphors, experiencing cultural content, information policies, intellectual property rights (IPR) and privacy and lastly education and training.
