Abstract

Over recent years, methods developed in the field of artificial intelligence have become the subject of increasing attention. Capturing knowledge in ontologies and thereby formalizing fact collections in well-defined semantics promises to facilitate the interpretation of the meaning of terms by humans and, also, by machines. In this chapter we discuss methods of ontology engineering, focusing on approaches for establishing semantic interoperability.
