Noise and Vibration Mitigation for Rail Transportation Systems

Part of the book series: Notes on Numerical Fluid Mechanics and Multidisciplinary Design ((NNFM,volume 99))

Summary

The dynamic compliance of the railway track is the central part in the vehicle-track interaction and the excitation of ground vibration. The track-soil interaction is calculated by the integral transform method (ITM) for infinite track-beams on the soil or by the combined finite-element boundary-element method (FEBEM) for detailed 3-dimensional track models. The finite element model of the track can include the ballast as continuum elements, what is necessary for the investigation of under ballast mats, or the ballast can be treated in a simpler way as an additional soil layer.
