Abstract
Extraperitoneal laparoscopic prostatic adenomectomy is a straightforward surgery indicated for the treatment of symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in patients with large-volume glands. The access and initial operative steps are the same as for extraperitoneal laparoscopic radical prostatectomy (see Chap. 5). Minimal bleeding and hence reduced transfusion rate, shorter hospitalization, and faster recovery are additional advantages. This minimally invasive technique is a reasonable and effective alternative to open prostatectomy.
