Abstract

■ Chronic rhinosinusitis and nasal polyposis are the main indications for ethmoid surgery.

■ The pathogenesis of these diseases remains unclear and surgery may be palliative, although effective if adequately combined with proper medical treatment.

■ Computed tomography is the preoperative modality of choice in creating a road map and in showing the bony architecture and features.

■ Obstruction of the ostiomeatal complex represents the crucial surgical target.

■ Limited procedures are frequently successful.

■ Surgical steps are tailored to individual cases.

■ Preoperative and postoperative care plays an essential role in the safe and efficacious treatment of ethmoid diseases.
