Bevölkerungsepidemiologisch sind bei Kindern und Jugendlichen nahezu ausschließlich Schmerzformen erfasst worden, die als psychophysiologische Funktionsstörungen und nicht als krankheitsabhängige Schmerzen (z. B. Tumorschmerz) gelten. Somit werden im Folgenden die wesentlichen epidemiologischen Befunde zu den häufigsten Schmerzsyndromen Bauch-, Kopf- und Rückenschmerz dargestellt.
