Die Hepatomegalie als klinisches Zeichen ist in Kinderheilkunde häufig. Nicht selten ist es das führende und einzige klinische Zeichen, welches auf eine Lebererkrankung hindeutet. Die klinisch manifeste Hepatomegalie ist definiert als eine Vergrößerung des Organs über die Altersnorm hinaus. Häufig ein Zufallsbefund, kann sie doch ein Zeichen einer ernsten Erkrankung sein.
