Das Mammakarzinom ist mit steigender Inzidenz die häufigste maligne Erkrankung der Frau. Wie bei anderen Tumorarten kann in erster Linie die frühe Erkennung der Tumore zu einer Reduktion der Mortalität führen. Bei diesen Bemühungen zur frühen Diagnostik steht die Einführung der mammographischen Screeninguntersuchung an erster Stelle.
