Für einen rationalen Einsatz der zur Analgosedierung zur Verfügung stehenden Pharmaka ist ein klar definiertes und regelmäßig zu überprüfendesTherapieziel erforderlich, um die unerwünschten und mitunter auch gefährlichen Nebenwirkungen auf ein Mindestmaß zu reduzieren. Umgekehrt müssen die Folgen einer unzureichenden und auch einer übermäßigen Analgosedierung vermieden werden.
