Abstract

Ductal adenocarcinomas of the pancreas are characterized by genomic instability, invasiveness and rapid progression. Their profound resistance to chemotherapy is due to changes in signalling pathways controlling proliferation and cell death. Members of the CK1 kinase family are playing important regulatory roles in these pathways and have been shown to impede receptor mediated apoptosis on different levels. Deregulation of CK1 dependent signal transduction pathways plays an important role in tumorgenesis. Since the activity of CK1δ can be regulated by phosphorylation, we searched especially for cellular kinases being able to phosphorylate CK1δ within its C-terminal regulatory domain. So far, several kinases have been identified and the effects of site-specific phosphorylation on the activity of CK1δ were characterized.
