Abstract

The theory on positive and negative electricity and the laws of electrostatic attraction were in the main developed through the 18th century. The first systematic investigations of the chemical effects of the electric current were performed by Luigi Galvani (1737–1798) and Alessandro Volta (1745–1828). Through their observations, the basis of the science of Electrochemistry was formed.
