Abstract
At the Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women’s Cancer Center, both HDR and LDR are available. A dedicated brachytherapy suite with a CT scanner in the room is used for routine tandem-based brachyhterapy insertions. Patients with residual disease after external beam have a diagnostic MRI with the brachytherapy applicator in place to guide contouring. However, patients that have less than 4 cm of residual disease receive CT-based planning alone. In addition, a dedicated operating room with an MRI built into the suite is available for real-time image guidance for complex interstitial cases. A rigorous quality assurance and safety program exists to ensure effective brachytherapy treatment delivery for all patients.
