Zusammenfassung

Die primäre Arthrose, Arthrosis deformans, ist die weltweit häufigste Gelenkerkrankung. Zwei Drittel der Bevölkerung über 60 Jahre ist davon betroffen – mit steigender Tendenz. Zunehmend tritt sie jedoch auch bei jüngeren Patienten auf. Aufgrund eines Missverhältnisses von Knorpelresistenz und mechanischer Beanspruchung kommt es zu einem fortschreitenden Knorpelverlust mit den klinischen Symptomen von Schmerz, Belastungs- und Bewegungseinschränkung.
