Abstract
We couple electrons to phonons via Coulomb forces, and show that for isotropic three-dimensional systems the long-range part of the Coulomb interaction cannot destabilize the Fermi liquid state. However, Luttinger liquid behavior in three dimensions can be due to quasi-one-dimensional anisotropy in the electronic band structure or in the phonon frequencies. A brief account of the results presented in this chapter has been published in [8.1].
