Bei dem typischen Krankheitsbild einer Atrophia gyrata zeigen sich rundliche, girlandenförmig begrenzte atrophische Areale der Netzhaut-Aderhaut in der mittleren Fundusperipherie. Die Veränderungen schreiten langsam fort. Ein zystoides Makulaödem mit Visusminderung, Gesichtsfeldeinengung sowie eine fehlende ERG-Antwort und Nachtblindheit können schon im Kindesalter festgestellt werden.
