Abstract
At present, the main challenge to understanding the nature of interstellar dust is the reference abundance (dust + gas) of the interstellar medium. Reasons why it is probably ~ 0.7 solar are reviewed. The absorption features shown by dust are considered, and my best-guess at the correct model of dust is given.
