Abstract

I present a number of examples of abundance observations of nearby galaxies which are relevant to questions of cosmology. Some examples are: the primordial helium abundance, the absolute abundances in galaxies, the relationship between abundance and luminosity, relative abundances and star formation histories, and the relationship between absolute abundance measurements and the star formation histories of individual galaxies.
